UH Manoa and Hawaii Energy Offer Award-Winning Training to Save Buildings up to Thousands on Energy Bills

University of Hawai‘i at Manoa Outreach College offers its 4th Building Operator Certification (BOC®) program starting September 28. Space is limited. The BOC is an ENERGY STAR® award-winning training focused on building energy efficiency, prolonging equipment life, and delivering cost savings through preventive maintenance. BOC graduates have saved an average of $20,000 annually on energy bills for their companies. For building operators and engineers, maintenance supervisors and workers, operations supervisors and techs, facility coordinators, HVAC technicians and others in the facility operation and maintenance field, this nationally recognized program involves 8 days of training (September - January) with hands-on projects to begin the process of energy savings in the workplace. Topics include:

• Facility electrical, HVAC, and lighting systems
• Indoor air quality
• Environmental health and safety
• Energy conservation

For the first time this Fall, Hawaii Energy, the ratepayer-funded conservation and efficiency program for Hawaii, Honolulu and Maui counties, will subsidize 75% of program costs for students who qualify as hands-on building operators, managers, and others in the facility operation and maintenance field. Administered by SAIC under the direction of the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission, Hawaii Energy helps residents and businesses adopt energy conservation behaviors and efficiency measures through cash rebates, education and training. The program plays an important role in helping to achieve Hawaii’s goal of reducing total electric energy usage by 30 percent or 4.3 billion kWh by 2030.
