Hawaii Energy Launches New Instant Rebate Lighting Program for Businesses

HONOLULU, June 29, 2015 – Hawaii Energy launched its new Lighting Distributor Instant Rebate program (Instant Rebate) to provide businesses, and the contractors who serve them, instant lighting rebates (as much as 75 percent of costs) at the time of purchase.

Hawaii Energy, the ratepayer-funded energy conservation and efficiency program for Hawaii, Honolulu and Maui counties, developed the program to help contractors and electric utility business customers reduce the working capital required to implement energy-efficient lighting projects.  Lighting rebates are applied to the invoice at the time of purchase so customers do not need to complete any rebate forms.

To receive these instant rebates, contractors and business customers must purchase qualified lighting from participating distributors that have enrolled with Hawaii Energy.  For a list of distributors, visit www.HawaiiEnergy.com/InstantRebates.

To help kick off the Instant Rebate program, businesses can attend a free “Lighting Lunch ‘N Learn” eventto learn more about the program as well as meet local lighting contractors for potential projects.  Graybar, as the Instant Rebate’s first participating distributor, is sponsoring this event to be held at Harbor View Center (1129 Nimitz Hwy), located just above Nico’s Pier 38, Wednesday, July 15 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Please RSVP no later than July 8 by contacting Lisa Harmon, Clean Energy Ally Specialist, at Lisa.M.Harmon@leidos.com.

“The Lighting Distributor Instant Rebateprogram is truly a win-win for everyone,” said Larry Newman, Director of Business Operations, Hawaii Energy.  “Contractors and businesses have lower carrying costs and no applications to fill out, while we believe distributors can grow their business as a result.”

Lighting distributors interested in offering the Instant Rebate program to their customers are required to become a Clean Energy Ally and submit an online application at www.HawaiiEnergy/InstantRebates.

Clean Energy Allies consist of a network of contractors, architects, engineers, equipment vendors, distributors, manufacturers and retailers who provide energy-efficient products and services to electric utility customers.  Allies have their company listed on Hawaii Energy’s online directory, attend free educational workshops and promote their business through co-branding opportunities.

Lighting can account for 20 to 50 percent of a business’ overall energy costs.  Installing energy-efficient lighting is one of the easiest ways for businesses to significantly reduce energy consumption and in turn, lower electricity bills.  Lighting retrofits have an average payback period of just 1 to 3 years.

Hawaii Energy offers cash rebates for a variety of energy-efficient lighting that ranges from affordable reduced wattage T8s to a multitude of LED (light emitting diode) products ideal for general interiors, refrigerated cases, exit signs as well as occupancy sensors.
