Hawai‘i Energy Receives ENERGY STAR® National Award for Excellence
We’re excited to announce that Hawai‘i Energy has received the prestigious ENERGY STAR® Award for Excellence in Promotions!
The ENERGY STAR® awards program honors businesses and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to protecting the environment through their energy achievements. According to the EPA, “ENERGY STAR® Award winners lead their industries in the production and sale of energy-efficient products and services, and in the development and adoption of strategies that provide substantial savings in the buildings where we work, and in our homes.” Hawai‘i Energy was selected from a network of thousands of ENERGY STAR® partners.
This award was a result of the work we have done in the past year to educate local residents on the benefits of purchasing ENERGY STAR® products. These efforts included: heavy local media coverage on national ENERGY STAR® Day (Oct. 23); co-producing an ENERGY STAR®-themed music video in partnership with the locally-written children’s musical, “SHOCKA: The Story of Energy in Hawai‘i”; and ongoing promotion through email campaigns, retail store signage, a web series, outreach events, and more!
In 2015, Hawai’i became the first state to establish a mandate to meet the island chain’s electricity needs with 100% clean energy by 2045. Although we still have 26 more years to go, as of the last report produced by the Hawai‘i Public Utilities Commission in 2017, we’re at an average of 27.65% clean energy across the state. The calculations are in: we won’t reach our clean energy goal without significantly boosting energy efficiency.
That’s where ENERGY STAR® comes in. The residential and commercial appliances that have the ENERGY STAR® “seal of approval” are key to lowering our energy consumption and creating a cleaner future for all.
But in order to have an impact on Hawai‘i, ENERGY STAR® can’t do it alone. You are an essential part of the equation. What have you done to reduce your energy usage and what steps can you take to be more energy efficient?
