Hawaii Energy Offers Energy-Efficient Gift Ideas For The 2021 Holiday Season

Honolulu, Hawaii – With the holiday shopping season in full swing, the experts at Hawaii Energy have compiled a list of useful, energy-efficient gift ideas to help friends and family save energy and money throughout the year

“There are a lot of really cool gifts you can get your family and friends that can also help them save money on their electric bills too,” said Brian Kealoha, executive director at Hawaii Energy. “And while the world continues to grapple with ongoing supply chain issues, now is the perfect time to take advantage of holiday sales and purchase that old appliance that is in need to replacing, before it’s too late.”

Hawaii Energy’s 2021 Energy-Efficient Gift Guide, includes:

KASA Smart Plug: These outlet add-ons help to control lighting, security cameras, home cooling, entertainment systems, and more through smart home assistants like Alexa, Echo and more. The smart plug also has a built-in energy consumption tracker which monitors energy usage and even shuts off certain products automatically when not in use. Price: $8.99 per plug.

Portable Clothes Steamer: A handheld, portable steamer uses extra heating technology to help save energy and time. They use about half the energy of a larger, stationary steamer, but are more versatile and compact. The 4-in-1 technology helps to eliminate wrinkles from fabrics, clean furniture, sanitize surfaces, and humidify clothes all with the benefit of faster heat times. Price: $20-$30.

Instant Pot Duo 7-in-1 6 qt: The Instant Pot Duo 7-in-1 cooker does the job of a pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice cooker, steamer, sauté pan, yogurt maker and warmer. While fast cook times mean less time plugged in and less energy waste, the device also has efficient heating controls which reduce the amount of heat in the kitchen. Price: $89-$99.

Roku Streambar: The Roku Streambar is an energy-efficient sound bar with Roku built in – ideal for any room in the home. This device, on average, uses less energy than other competing sound bars while delivering 4K HDR quality streaming media. It’s the perfect upgrade for cord-cutters and bargain hunters looking for an affordable and efficient home entertainment system. Price: $100-$130.

HyperVolt Massage Gun: Give the gift of health and wellness with a Bluetooth, portable device that gives tired muscles relief with a rapid percussion massage. The energy needed for a single-charge costs only seven cents a day and provides three hours of use. Price: $130-$250.

ENERGY STAR® Refrigerator: While this may be more of a gift to oneself, the impacts of supply chain delays increase the risk of being stuck without this essential appliance when it’s needed most. A fridge can also be a big chunk of a home’s environmental footprint and add upwards of $200 to an annual electricity bill. ENERGY STAR®-certified models can save as much as 35 percent on fridge energy usage annually and qualify for Hawai‘i Energy rebates.

Aside from energy conscious tech gifts, there are plenty of other ways to stay sustainable and energy friendly over the holidays. Board games, a new plant, a shared experience are all great non-energy using gifts. And with the amount of waste generated from disposable wrapping products, using a reusable tote, cloth or newspaper are also great ways to have less of an impact on the environment.
